The title of Electric Arches’s first section is “true stories,” and perhaps that’s a preventive measure against some readers’ disbelief—yes, listen, this really happens. But I suspect Ewing also offers “truth” as a kind of faith, an insistence that the world as it is need not constrain the world as it could be.

Eve Louise Ewing is a sociologist, author, poet, and visual artist from Chicago, Illinois.
